The Agency for the Development of Computer Sports also reckons Russia can produce two games consoles by 2030, somehow.

, Russian authorities are hoping to establish a new set of institutions to stabilise and corral Russian game development. On top of two bodies intended to focus on industry regulation, research, and training, officials also want to establish"Rosgame": A centre for the"strategic development" of the Russian games industry, which would focus on the"regeneration and the development of the industry" as well as the"development and publishing of games".

The bigwigs have three possible scenarios for Rosgame in mind, ranging from the unlikely to the absurd. The first, a so-called"stabilisation scenario," envisions a $7 billion investment that sees the games industry recover and Russia enter the ranks of the"top 20 game development countries" by 2030. There's also an"ambitious scenario," requiring a $20 billion injection, which would entail an"industry breakthrough".

But where the rubber really hits the road is in the $50 billion"leadership scenario," which would apparently see the Russian games scene turn into a"tool" that could go toe-to-toe with games industry titans by 2030. Soft power, if you're unaware, refers to cultural influence—the power to persuade and co-opt others to adopt your values—in contrast to military and economic hard power.

Suggesting that even they might be aware of how unlikely that sounds, the office of Dmitry Chernyshenko, Russia's deputy PM for Tourism, Sport, Culture, and Communications, clarified that the authorities haven't really figured out how to fund any of that yet, and that"extra-budgetary mechanisms" will likely be the proposal.

A document prepared by the non-profit Agency for the Development of Computer Sports and Other Types of Sport , whose representatives were also in attendance at the December meeting, proposed some concrete goals for the Gaming Industry of the Future project. Apart from establishing a Russian EA, ARKIVS imagines that, by 2030, Russian game development will have earned a billion foreign users, produced four Russian game engines, and have [deep breath] somehow produced two new games consoles.

Am I crazy or does anyone else find this whole thing confusing? Didn’t Russia give up the whole central planning thing back in the 80s? I mean, I’m 40; I was there. What the hell are they doing? Do all the talented developers get jobs outside of Russia or something?

Weird, they'll pirate games and other media, instead of doing the easier thing and stopping their attack on Ukraine. 🤡

What's the worst on the list, ? Does he uses 'c' to croutch? Is he realy that DEGENERATE tootell me!

Red Alert 2 remaster 😁

Also one of the projects they’re gonna make is apparently going to cost 5 billion dollars

LOL good luck with that.

Is this that story from like 5 months ago?

They already won the market, before 'that' started.

Let’s be honest. It’s to use the game as a tool to spy or steal data.

Fucking just Buy EA so they can go away!

lmao remember Amazon learning this isn't as easy as it sounds to rich assholes who have no idea what videogames are? yeah it gonna be like that

idk man, for some reason, I feel like Russia has more pressing matters to deal with right now D: just like...a hunch...

Wasn't this news months ago? And already shitcanned, no less?

Real priorities Propaganda comes before the lives of the population Another day in authoritarian hellscape

It's not that fucking difficult. Could do it a lot quicker if you didn't care about development costs.

Absolutely dying at this story. Could you imagine how bad it'd be if EA was a federal company?

Russian eletronic arts *Laughs in akella*

I mean if they could become better than EA that would be great! More companies makeing good products! It is however very unlikely that they will manage within that timeframe.

Tetris 2

become a giant by 2030? how long do they think games take to make 1 year ?

Oh no Russian EA, even worse than normal EA.

I mean, anyone can slap a android phone inside a case and pair it with a cheap Bluetooth controller and call it a console.

What would Russia’s game look like?

🤣 What are they smoking
