A Michelin-starred chef has a new concept coming to the former site of Charles Phan's Out the Door.

Matthew Accarrino, head of Michelin-starred Italian restaurant SPQR and one of San Francisco's most highly regarded chefs, is opening a second concept virtually next door to SPQR in Pacific Heights.

The building has a James Beard pedigree of its own. The 2,700-square-foot ground floor was the longtime home of star chef Charles Phan's fast-casual Vietnamese restaurant Out the Door , which announced its closure in May 2021 after 11 years. The large loft above was the Phan family home for years after Phan and his wife purchased the three-story building in 2007.
