South Africa's electricity crisis has been decades in the making.
All South Africans need to demand a clear and focused response plan that demonstrates urgency and accountability from government.Tebogo Khaas | Electricity catastrophe: Bleak future on cards for battered small businesses In a wide-ranging interview with News24 on Tuesday, Mantashe, who is also ANC chairperson, not only continued to distance himself and his department from the crisis but doubled down on his comments that effectively accused outgoing Eskom chief executive André de Ruyter and staff at the power utility of treason.
There is only one address to which the failure and collapse of Eskom must be sent, and that's the ANC. Amid a national energy crisis, two civil society organisations have launched a new legal challenge against President Cyril Ramaphosa and Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe. South Africa has become like the countries it once used to help. And there is no immediate relief in sight - a prognosis that doesn't help ease the gloomy mood among citizens.
An actual lack of chickens is not causing the shortage, but chicken houses are still full of birds that cannot be slaughtered due to severe load shedding-related disruptions. This is according to DA leader, John Steenhuisen. In a virtual address on Tuesday afternoon, Steenhuisen said"it is time for South Africans to take the government head-on".
However, Soweto Creamery is now feeling the pressure following the continuous load shedding crisis in the country."It has been really challenging. We have a [load shedding] schedule, but it is not accurate at all. Sometimes, the electricity is off for longer than what it is scheduled for."As chronic load shedding continues indefinitely, a behind-the-scenes dispute has broken out between National Treasury and Eskom over where the money should come from to buy more diesel.
"Eventually in the next 12-18 months we will be able to say load-shedding is a thing of the past. That is the target," Godongwana, told Reuters on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in the Swiss resort of Davos.South Africa’s National Energy Crisis Committee, a body run by the office of President Cyril Ramaphosa, expects record power outages to ease as measures put in place, including a new law to fast-track plant development, take effect.
A generating unit each at Kendal, Majuba and Tutuka power stations have returned to service on Monday. Ramaphosa cancelled his trip to the World Economic Forum’s gathering in Davos, Switzerland this week to deal with SA's energy crisis. Time is running out to update ten million prepaid electricity meters in South Africa. In less than two years, a software limitation in the programming of prepaid electricity meters could reduce the revenue that authorities receive from the sale of electricity to zero, unless they step in to do something about it.
USELESS!!!
