Hundreds gathered for the celebrations in Old Market Square

Celebrations have been taking place to mark the Chinese New Year in Nottingham. To celebrate the Year of the Rabbit, Cosmopolitan Arts presented 'From East to East - The Story of Chinese Migration to the East Midlands' in Old Market Square on Saturday, January 28.Starting at 2.30pm, the traditional Chinese procession took place in the city, and was followed by a lion dance. There were also music and audio-visual displays at Old Market Square.

The family event taught people about the spring festival communities and their culture. An exhibition and Chinese workshop was also taking place on the day from 11am until 4pm at the Victoria Shopping Centre. Cosmopolitan Arts have worked closely with the Chinese communities of Leicester, Nottingham, and Derby to conduct the first ever study into Chinese migration to the East Midlands. They were able to do this thanks to funding from Arts Council England and the Heritage Lottery Fund, which has allowed them to celebrate and share this research.
