The company last year moved into nearly 200,000 square feet in Brisbane — enough space for 400 people.

As Johnson & Johnson's pharmaceuticals arm opened a nearly 200,000-square-foot Peninsula facility last fall, the message from site headwas about efficiently going after new gene therapies and infectious diseases. Now the company is reportedly targeting job cuts, integration and winding down programs.

Heaton wouldn't say at a town hall meeting Wednesday how many jobs would be affected by the changes, Fierce Pharma said. "As we colocate, we can articulate problems more clearly, look at problems differently, to come up with some pretty unique solutions," Merson said at the time."This will allow us to discover, develop and deliver medicines more rapidly than we have in the past."
