The Utah County Commission approved salary increases of about $11,000 along with raises for other elected officials. They say the raises are meant to help bring pay up to market level.

PROVO — Utah County commissioners approved a proposal to raise their salaries by about $11,000 along with raises for other elected officials.

In total, the raises will cost the county $123,755 in 2023 to cover the increases for the elected officials. "We are elected, we didn't come here for the pay. We came here to serve," Sakievich said. "What I'm concerned about is the timing, of course, and the economics of the community and the nation are not the best."

The county's 2023 budget also states: "Due to market conditions, salary and related benefit costs were increased significantly in 2022 to be in line with similar positions at comparable agencies."

Maybe all the employees at my work should vote to give ourselves raises.

Shame. Shame. Shame.

With the increased cost of living I have essential took a $15000 pay cut. It’s great to know that they are taking care of their own..

What do you mean 'market level'? They are elected officials. There is no market.

Redicoulous

I’m sure the employees doing all the work were left out of this though

Should tie pay increase to performance based requirements dictated by constituents and not market level.

Nobody in non govt gets paid market value in Utah

Really? Looks like it's time to elect new people, and let them start out at the minimum wage. Can't be giving out too many raises, or EVERYONE will want one. Who voted to give them more of our tax money? I don't think they have earned it.

But these same people would all vote against a bill to raise the minimum wage lol

Grifters gonna grift.

Elected officials should be paid the average of their constituents, not like they are the elites of the people they represent

How about bringing down inflation so that all could get a raise not just the elite’s

It’s to bad politicians DON’T remember they work for the taxpayers and not themselves. I’d ♥️ to vote me an $11,000 raise. Politicians SUCK!!

Horrible decision!

Why oh why do we continue to use “bringing pay up to market level” as an excuse to raise pay? This “equity” idea is flaming our inflation, our housing crisis, inequity in parts of our citizenry and actually makes no sense.
