Similar to the city’s existing laws for traditional bicycles, e-scooters and e-bikes will now have to be walked through the designated areas.

The specific locations where riding recreational powered devices will no longer be allowed include streets and sidewalks bordered by and including: Illinois Road to the south, Wisconsin Avenue to the north, Oakwood Avenue to the west and Western Avenue to the east. Also included is a stretch of Western Avenue, from Westminster Avenue north to Woodland Road.

City officials pointed to safety concerns as the reason for the new policy. Walldorf said there were two reported incidents over the summer involving the devices, in which there were no injuries. “I think what happened over the course of the summer is we realized that those tools are truly insufficient for this,” he said.
