Anchorage's Weekend Market set to return to Downtown Anchorage after three years at the Dimond Center.

FastCast morning digital headlines for Thursday, March 28, 2024.ANCHORAGE, Alaska - After a three-year hiatus, Anchorage’s Weekend Market will return to its original location in a city-owned parking lot on Third Avenue.

“A lot of these vendors have been at the market since the early 90s and a lot of them are extremely excited for the opportunity to move back downtown,” Fox said. In 2021, Fox moved the operation to the parking lot of the Dimond Center. Fox said the South Anchorage location was successful but attracted mostly locals. He is currently deciding whether to continue operating a smaller market at the Dimond Center, a decision he expects to make next week.Fox said he believes a growing number of tourists visiting Anchorage will help sustain the downtown location.

Bonney said he prefers not to think in terms of when things will be “back to normal” because of massive changes to things like business expenses and the labor market. But he did say the days of seismic economic growth are behind us.
