A group of eight passengers represented by attorneys in San Francisco and Hawaii have filed an antitrust lawsuit in an attempt to block the planned merger of Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines.

The airline said then that it would continue to offer flights between the Hawaiian islands as the original Hawaiian Airlines did for years. The complaint states that travel and tourism pump about $20 billion into Hawaii’s economy — about 27% of the state’s total economic dollars — and roughly 9 million tourists visit the islands annually, which generates close to $16 billion in lodging, transportation, and food and beverage sales for the state.
