HMS Queen Elizabeth captain flown off ship in 'company car' row

Cdre Cooke-Priest has been in command of the HMS Queen Elizabeth since October last year

Despite being removed from the ship, it is understood he remains officially in charge and will formally hand over to a new commanding officer of the £3bn carrier later this month.Cdre Cooke-Priest, who joined the Royal Navy in 1990, has been in command of the HMS Queen Elizabeth since October last year.

In a statement a Navy spokesman said:"In light of the ongoing investigation, as a precautionary measure, to protect the individual and the ship's company, the Royal Navy has decided that Captain Cooke-Priest will not be at sea with HMS Queen Elizabeth."

Let's hope we don't go to war while they are investigating his company car use... I didn't even know the Royal Navy was a company - when did they privatise it?

Flown off ship in company car- reminds me of the day I water skied off centre point on my space hopper ( remember them?)

The real horrible thing about this whole thing is that we gave this guy a Ford galaxy as a company car ! He's the captain of our God damn flagship FFS! Show him some respect and give a proper car to misuse!

Why is this news the RoyalNavy have their reasons. Well done to them for punishing incompetents and failing to follow the rules, unlike the government and corporate sector. Looking at you Mr Grayling and BorisJohnson.

Jesus, there are corrupt politicians and businesses costing this country billions... and someone overusing their company car is news?! Really?!

in the name of sanity!! still going on about this. he's the captain for goodness sake he can use the car for what and whenever he wants, worse abuses of privilege than a british sea captain. IMO he's entitled

This has been an absolute joke and a huge PR own goal by the royal navy. If he had borrowed the ship then maybe justified....😜

I bet he earns enough not to even need a company car !

I wonder how the cost of a few thousand miles in a Ford Galaxy compares to a helicopter flight?

How can the Royal Navy top brass think it's a good idea to spend thousands sending a helicopter when all they had to do was wait till the ship docked. Who needs investigating

Bizarre. Company car misuse for a man who spends his working life on a boat.

Sounds like petty revenge and jealousy by a gang of stuffed shirts, many senior military officers unhappy about this ; should be investigated and reversed

What nonsense

Company car misuse? I wish.

hands up who else read that as 'captain thrown off ship' the first time

Indian babus know better how to manage log books.

Is he allowed to use a company aircraft instead?

The 'Firth of Forth'

Sounds to me like he was about to expose a peadophile ring.

Dogging?
