Australia's consumer watchdog has given Chemist Warehouse's merger plans a green light. Those who work behind the pharmacy counter in regional areas have mixed views of the news.

Pharmacists are both concerned by and supportive of the merger.Pharmacists in regional areas are divided over the impacts of Chemist Warehouse and Sigma Healthcare's mega-merger.

The merger will give the new company about 1,000 retail stores and 16 distribution centres in Australia and New Zealand, as well as end-to-end oversight of the pharmaceutical process. "I just feel it will give them an unfair business advantage over smaller operators," Mr Paterson said. “Reduced competition ultimately leads to higher prices for patients and lower service standards," a spokesperson said
