File Image: IOLDurban - Systemic barriers in the labour market and the country’s poor education system are some of the major contributors to unemployment among the youth. This is according to Siyakha Youth Assets Study released this week by the Centre for Social Development in Africa, University of Johannesburg.
It showed that only 27% of those who received training were able to find work and had a 9% advantage over those who had not gone through any employment programmes. There is a disconnect, the study revealed, between the education system and the labour market as a result of the skills deficit that young people have when they leave the schooling system.
Economist Dawie Roodt agreed with the report, saying youth unemployment was directly related to South Africa’s poor education system.
Brought to you by YourANC !!! They closed down colleges and trade centers!!! Stupid !!!?

This article is misleading. The term 'Youth' is used very loosely to describe a few young people; the article makes it seem as if an entire generation doesnt possess skills when in fact its a small portion 2ndly its the employers duty to train entry level employees.
