The Cboe Volatility Index has climbed over the last two weeks, first as investors chased further upside in U.S. stocks through call options and then as they sought protection against a tumble in indexes at record highs. On Thursday, the VIX jumped to its highest level in nearly 10 weeks as the S&P 500 fell 3.5%.
Trump’s largely unexpected victory set off violent swings in markets on election night in 2016, with gold, the Mexican peso and stock futures among the assets experiencing wild gyrations. “Volatility could actually last … for longer because of the nature of the election process itself, no matter who wins,” Holzer said.
The strategy could pay off, said Henry Schwartz, head of product intelligence at Cboe Global Markets, but even with election angst, further volatility spikes are not inevitable.

I love when the press posts stories about the stock market because they always use these photos of middle aged men clutching their heads or pulling their hair (if they have any) and looking up with a look that says 'I've made a huge mistake.' These dudes are sad to look at.
I sure hope it's 2016 all over again. We all need the economic boost after the pandemic.
