IPOH: The Perak government has received a proposal from Gas Malaysia Berhad to construct an RM105mil natural gas pipeline network from Bidor to Tanjung Malim, says Datuk Saarani Mohamad.

The Mentri Besar said the proposed 62km pipeline was from Kampung Kuala Bikam in Bidor to Proton City in Tanjung Malim.

He said based on the briefing, the project would not only strengthen the growth of the automotive industry in Tanjung Malim, but also provide benefits to at least eight industrial areas in the vicinity and potentially attract new investment. "Gas Malaysia will collaborate with Invest Perak and relevant government departments to identify the types of industrial clusters in the area that have potential as future consumer prospects.

"If the project is implemented, it will strengthen the pipe network in the state which currently has five such networks in Parit Buntar, Taiping, Sitiawan, Teluk Intan and Kinta Valley," he told a press conference after the state executive councillor meeting on Wednesday . Saarani said the state government, together with Gas Malaysia, was in the process of obtaining approval from the Energy Commission to implement the project.
