A group of business leaders are calling on the federal government to remove pandemic restrictions at Pearson International Airport which they say are contributing to the hours-long delays that many travellers have faced in recent weeks.

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority has warned travellers to show up at least two hours prior to their departure for domestic flights and three hours ahead of time for international flights as it deals with a myriad of issues that are causing long lineups at security and in the customs area at Pearson.

“Over the past week alone more than 100,000 people, 50 per cent of travellers moving through Toronto Pearson, suffered extensive delays. International passengers are being forced to wait for up to three hours, sometimes inside the aircraft they flew in on because of longer processing times by customs officers.

Speaking with reporters on Thursday, Tourism Industry of Ontario President and CEO Chris Bloore said that something needs to change before “we lose our international stature” and risk “depriving businesses of the money that they count on from international business travellers and tourists.”

Especially since the testing is flawed

Blame the travelling taxpayers! Government Ineptness

The testing at the airport is a dog & pony show meant to instill confidence in the Canadian public that the government is protecting us. In reality it's meaningless. Covid & all its variants came here anyway.

It wasn’t that bad today,

Well if business leaders call for it……

The only way the government will listen is when their wealthy donors get pissed off.

It's not COVID screening. It's a lack of quality personnel. There should be a full complement of customs officers ready at all times to receive the hundreds of passengers. Instead, There are 2 or 3 stations open, manned by lazy, unengaged civil servants who don't give a damn.

‘The time to act is now!’ Business leaders call for end to scanning for deadly explosives. 9/11 was two decades ago! It’s time to move on. Protecting passengers is too much of an inconvenience to ‘Business Leaders’ and adds cost to the bottom line.

Yes please!

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

No more testing this is bullshit we need to move on

After 2 hour wait we got selected just to add more time it was great

Scrap the useless masks, scrap the useless touch less screens that confuse everyone. Scrap it all!!

Drop all mandates

Pearson should be more focused on hiring more workers and doing better in scheduling. I arrived two weeks ago from an international trip and the airport was a literal zoo.

The guy you want to deal with went to Ukraine for a photo op. JustinTrudeau should be back now.

Our government is a disaster

'Business Leaders'

Part of the plan to make traveling and owning houses not possible for the average person good job JustinTrudeau
