The majority of technology employers intend to lift their headcount in the coming financial year. The question is where this additional talent will come from.

It’s a desert out there when it comes to finding candidates to fill roles that require tech skills.

“Technology organisations are now well aware the benefits piece is a critical one when it comes to retaining and attracting the best talent. The needle has moved dramatically in terms of employee expectations and employees are firmly in the driving seat,” says Beckley.to find people to fill vacant positions. At the moment, SAP is looking for project managers, business process consultants, technical consultants and managers, solution advisers and engagement engineers.

“To deliver on our growth plans and product roadmap we need a mix of both experienced and junior engineers,” explains Stax managing director Adam Beavis. He says the business has been affected by the ongoing skills shortage and several roles have been open for more than six months.“Being a fast-moving start-up helps us find new talent. However, some skills sets are in such short supply we struggle to entice people to move.

He says offering employees flexibility and integrating sustainability, diversity and inclusion into Stax’s values means the firm is better positioned to attract and retain people who are increasingly looking for purpose in their work. “Financial incentives are still important, but there’s a large group of jobseekers now choosing their employers based on how interesting the work is, whether it offers opportunities for growth and whether it provides the right culture to support their development.
