Kenya’s losing presidential candidate Raila Odinga said on Tuesday his coalition totally rejects the election results that saw Deputy President William Ruto win the presidential vote, and vowed to pursue legal means to challenge the decision.

ReutersKenya's opposition leader Raila Odinga of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance, who competed in Kenya's presidential election, addresses the nation following the announcement of the results of the presidential election, in Nairobi, Kenya August 16, 2022.

“Our view is that the figures announced by Chebukati are null and void and must be quashed by court of law,” Odinga, who was making his fifth bid for the presidency, told a news conference. The dramatic events of Monday have raised fears of violence like that seen after past disputed polls. He addressed the media after the country’s electoral commission declared him the winner of last Tuesday’s election.
