IPOH: A cashless parking system will be tried for three months starting October at the Ipoh Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) and the chicken market, says Datuk Rumaizi Baharin.

The Ipoh mayor said once the trial period is completed, the Ipoh City Council would then review the data and make some adjustments to the system."The data we gathered will be applied at other tourist attractions in the city, which will be implemented later," he told reporters at Taman Meru Community Hall here Thursday .

“While there might be complaints, we have to face the fact that times have changed. More countries are opting for cashless systems," he added. This, however, prompted some concerns from users who are worried that the system might be inconvenient for some elderly folk, as some may not have smartphones.

Rumaizi said he was aware of the complaints that the system might not be suitable due to the number of elderly folk in the city. “However, based on my observation, there are elderly people between the age of 60s and 70s who are more tech-savvy than me. "In Kuala Lumpur for example, there are also senior citizens who are able to use the cashless system.
