🗣'Trucking companies need to also be held responsible when their vehicles are involved in tragic collisions.' - Kwanele Ncalane, KZN Transport spokesperson. ECRNewswatch MarianhillCrash

The crash, which claimed the lives of two people, was caused by a runaway truck on the N3.

KZN Transport spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane says trucking companies themselves need to also be held responsible when their vehicles are involved in tragic collisions."Our view is that should it be found as part of the investigation that the truck itself has certain defects, break failures or any other defects, we will prefer that certain charges be pressed against the companies itself."

"We feel that a driver has got a responsibility to make sure that the vehicles they are using on the road is compliant, but in this case we also feel that trucking companies as well ought to take some responsibility in terms of ensuring that the vehicles they give to drivers are roadworthy and are in a good condition."
