With just over one million people, Arizona’s best-known southern city punches way above its weight. The Old Pueblo is recognized by UNESCO as a “City of Gastronomy;” is home to a top-ranked research university; has an Air Force base; and proudly embraces its desert environment and Hispanic heritage.
It is also a hub of tech activity and startups around biomedical, optics and defense. This is my fifth look at places to visit in Arizona to get a feel for what this state is really about, and Tucson is definitely more “Arizona” than Phoenix. There, I said it. Now, before you challenge that statement, visit these four places. Then we can talk. Imagine a zoo, botanical garden and museum wrapped up into one amazing place.
Stay away from that cesspool.
