Buckeye City Council moved forward this past week with multiple requests that could bring new commercial and residential development to the growing municipality west of Phoenix.south of Interstate 10 on both sides of State Route 85 will now be slated for a mix of uses including industrial, retail, restaurants and thousands of residential units.
Council approved an amendment to its general plan, which guide's a city's long-term growth, a rezoning request and a development agreement for the property on Dec. 7. The changes to the master plan for Westpark will allow for a mix of housing product and provides an updated water master plan in addition to adding industrial uses.
The new project will help bring needed housing to Buckeye's downtown area, which it has also been working to revitalize, city documents said. The new workforce multifamily project, called Lanai Living, will comprise 444 units along MC 85 just east of Buckeye High School and the Dr. Saide Recreation Center.
Avondale City Council approved requests to amend the city's general plan, an annexation and rezoning for nearly 200 acres near Dysart and Broadway roads in the southern part of the city. The overall property will also contain about 30 to 40 acres of commercial uses such as industrial development. "Without infrastructure, it's really hard to attract development down in that area because it's so costly," Baugh said."The benefit of Three Rivers Ranch is that it provides the infrastructure needed to open the new frontier, for the south part of Avondale to begin to grow."
