RS: I don’t know if I can speak for you, Miuccia. Maybe I can. But I think that when this idea to work together first came on the table, it completely re-energised both of us. Because it was such an odd idea, in a way.RS: We are not stupid, Luke, and we know what you are maybe fishing for. Like maybe one day, Miuccia is going. And maybe one day I would continue, take over. But that’s not where we are. Where we are is that we are still very excited about doing this work together.
MP: I am aware of my age. But exactly – we are not there. So, for now, we continue to build our world together.MP: Basically, what I do at Miu Miu is imagine what I would want to wear if I was young. At some point, maybe I went too far in these fantasies, but now in my work, I am interested in what you want to wear if you are a cool, sexy young woman. So it’s very easy for me. In menswear, I imagine myself as a man, and in Miu Miu as a young woman, and so on.Photo: Filippo Fior / Gorunway.
Raf, you are in a completely unique position in fashion in that you are the creative director of a house, working hand-in-hand with the creative author of that house. RS: Yes, and I do think my attraction to this situation is because I have the keeper of Prada’s DNA working alongside me. It is a beautiful thing that we can do this together – besides the fact that we click – in order to protect that DNA here. Because if you think long-term, the way to succeed is to protect DNA. Which doesn’t mean I don’t believe in evolution. You want to evolve. But, protecting DNA is going to be very crucial in fashion, I think.
