The first week of the NCAA college basketball championships always seems to hit like a tsunami, fuelled by the excitement of the first tipoffs and the inevitable headline\u002Dmaking upsets.

Just like the NFL regular season and playoffs leading to the Super Bowl it is all about destination television, this tournament follows an equally consistent scheduling formula, year-in, year-out. Fan engagement is built on the familiarity of the Sweet Sixteen, the Elite Eight and, of course, the Final Four.

It all starts with wall-to-wall television. It features as much if not more in the way of video streaming — in fact, the men’s tournament represented the tipping point for video streaming for CBS, especially in the past five to seven years.
