A high court has granted Minister Barbara Creecy leave to appeal aspects of a judgment related to the air pollution in the Highveld Priority Area. | News24_Business

, the high court ruled that the poor air quality in the Highveld Priority Area violated the constitutional right to a safe and healthy environment. The initial application was brought by environmental justice groups groundWork and Vukani Environmental Justice Movement in Action in June 2019, which are represented by the Centre for Environmental Rights . The state was a respondent in the case.

Creecy subsequently filed an application for leave to appeal certain aspects of the judgment – specifically around the interpretation of the law. According to the judgment, the minister is duty bound to enforce the regulations.
