The charges against the Lycoming County construction firm cover a three-year period.

WILLIAMSPORT – A Lycoming County businessman has been accused of not reporting $615,129 in cash payments to employees that resulted in a federal tax loss of $47,067.

Barr, who owns Barr Construction, is accused of failing to truthfully account for and pay to the Internal Revenue Service all federal income taxes withheld along with Social Security and Medicare taxes for the period from Oct. 31, 2017, to Dec. 31, 2020. Barr maintained timesheets and paid employees by cash, check or a combination of the two, the indictment states.

Barr maintained records on a spreadsheet that included cash payments, but they were not reported to the payroll company so no taxes were withheld, the government charges.
