The site of a car wash and former Indian restaurant is being sold for £2 million amid plans to build a nine-storey apartment block there. Plans were first approved in September 2021 for a 100-apartment building to be based on the island between Meadows Way and London Road.
The site houses a car valeting centre and at the other end, was home to the now-demolished Indian restaurant Jewel. Before becoming a restaurant, that part of the site was home to the much-loved Globe pub. Nearly three years on from the approval of the apartment plans, the site is now being marketed for sale at a public auction. The auction itself is due to take place on June 20 at the Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, with an initial guide price of £2 million. The listing says: "A rare opportunity to acquire a Landmark mixed-use development site in a prominent location on London Road, the main arterial route into Nottingham city centre.
As well as the one and two-bed apartments, the planned building would also include a two-storey restaurant, cafe and bar on the ground floor. There would also be basement car parking and a gym for residents to use. Whoever purchases the site will have to act quickly, given that Nottingham City Council's original planning permission said building work had to begin within three years - meaning the permission expires this September.
