PARIS - French energy major Total will make a 100 million euro contribution to the reconstruction of the Notre-Dame cathedral, the company’s Chief Executive Officer Patrick Pouyanne said on Tuesday. Total’s pledge joins that of billionaire businessman Bernard Arnault’s family and his LVMH luxury goods group and other French industry tycoons who have promised funds for the rebuilding of the cathedral.

JoanneGJoseph Definitely why all over the sudden if that happened to other countries like in Asia and Africa you won't see such big budget pouring in as they don't care about us only about our minerals and our commodity

The rich just don’t give a damn about humanity...WOW!

I know that Notre Dame is a very important landmark but the fact that billionaires have pledged over 600 million dollars in under 24 hours to help fix it just really puts into perspective how easily rich people could help solve world issues if they cared.

If all of these companies can take out that amount to these poor African countries they’re milking dry then... arg nvm

Just in: The rich really don’t care about human beings. Being poor is less important than a structure with sentimental value.

I WISH YOU HAD THE SAME ENERGY WHEN MOZAMBIQUE WAS CRYING TO THE WORLD FOR ASSISTANCE AFTER 1000 PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES FROM THE CYCLONE😌😌😌

I'm so certain this building was insured. It's their money though, they chose what to do with it.

So much for Building and when Cyclone hit Phillipines, Americans , Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi not even half of €100m raised for humanity

Are you fuckin serious..?😶😶.What about building schools and hospitals in Africa

Wasn’t the cathedral insured? This is part of the Catholic Church under the Uber-wealthy Vatican, for crying out loud.

💧💧💧

Where is this energy for Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe which have had over 1000 deaths and needs $2 billion to rebuild after a cyclone that happened just a month ago?

mxm

I am happy that the world is pouring their generosity into the restoration of NotreDame. Please do the same for CycloneIdai victims & structural consequences, poverty and hunger.

But they wiil want you yo rename it Total Notre Dame!

More than enough.

To think the Magestry of that place and how long ago it was built. All by hand and faith no machines used .

Donald Trump donates $1.00. (just kidding)

There is money to rebuild old buildings but there is no money to rebuild broken lifes for Oil extraction.

Yet still refuses to admit their cereal is made from cardboard shavings

How nice it would be for that money to go to the victims of the war

How about this rebuild one?

Before or after paying his 2.5 billion taxes ?

Want to raise a billion dollars? Sell charred remnants from the fire.

JUST IN: Societe Generale pledges 10 million euros to support the reconstruction of Notre-Dame Cathedral

Total CEO actions to help out the church is great but hopefully the message of Jesus's love and character will impact many CEOs. Positive actions in our world in helping out those most in need will create a better world for all humanity❤ All is possible.

The Vatican can fund the restoration and the other funds can be used for poverty stricken families all around the globe. Of course this is not very posh and you will not be frontpage news, but god(if you believe) will see it.

so sad

Donate to the poor!

Total has never pledged to develop or rebuild the human factor where they get their resources. They are much more interested in bricks and mortar in France.

Can they offer similar amount to house homeless citizens?

Poverty needs help,

Whew afraid christians would have to rely on the pope.

Amazing how fast corporate pocket books loosen up for the right optics. Has Pontifex announced whether the church will have any role in this reconstruction?

It's good for him to donate the money to restore the NotreDame Cathedral, but it is more important to restore French people's Faith in Jesus Christ. Otherwise, after French people restore the Cathedral, it will be turned into a Mosque anyway.

JoanneGJoseph WTAF! Yes, it is sad that the beautiful building burnt down...but there are a LOT better ways to use €100 million to improve the lives of human beings who are struggling to feed themselves and their families!!!

JoanneGJoseph CycloneIdai caused havoc in Southern Africa ,lives were lost human beings displaced, I will leave it here sad 😔

Just imagine how many people 100 million euros could feed.

I believe they have no choice in this matter.

🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

$200+ million came out of nowhere just hours after the fire, just wow. Whereas disasters happening all over the world have been begging for aids

That's a healthy start, fabulously generous, well done.

All these people willing to donate to restore a church, but if you asked them for that donation to social and health care for bet they wouldn’t be so generous

Tax deductible

It will never be the same.....much like wearing a new hat....with an old suit on !

And I think 100 million is no bad Where can I send money

AND MORE WILL COME. NOTRE-DAME IS HISTORY AND MANY OF THE ARTIFACTS WERE ALSO SAVED BECAUSE OF THE FIREMEN. WHAT A JOB THEY DID TO SAVE WHAT THEY DID SAVE.

I love how fast corporations give money away for things like this but not for things that actually help people. Is so disgusting.

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Great to see a global response to restoration. 🍁

What are the odds it will be rebuilt to be “more inclusive to Muslims” or some similar shit?

And the money that was never there for other important stuff suddenly starts pouring in...

Hopefully the first of many.
