People of different races, young and old joined hands today to celebrate the life and times of former President Nelson Mandela. From students to tourists – all commended him for his role in reshaping the country.
The famous and historical Vilakazi street in Orlando West in Soweto was buzzing with locals and tourists who were celebrating the life of the father of the nation. Visiting a house he shared with the late Winnie Madikizela Mandela, tourists said they decided to come from as far afield as the United States to celebrate his legacy.
“I am here to serve. To me, this day means giving back to the community and it means honouring the Great Nelson Mandela through his fights and struggles for freedom. The privileges that I have as a young person of this day and age. After Nelson Mandela’s fights, his ability to have quality education and the ability just to have freedom, and freedom comes with opportunities that we are now exposed to.
