Specialist Scientists at the South African Medical Research Council Gender and Health Research Unit, Dr Nwabisa Shai, is confident that there are enough existing programmes aimed at eradicating the scourge of Gender Based Violence and Femicide in the country.
This follows a reiterated call for all South Africans to rally behind the country’s fight against GBVF by the new Minister in the Presidency responsible for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Sindisiwe Chikunga. Dr Shai says what remains is for the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities to support the available programmes with the work and services provided to GBVF victims.
“What needs to happen now is for the Minister to access and utilise all information collected by researchers and social activists which will help implement GBVF programmes at NGOs and NPOs. The Minister also needs to ensure that those NPOs and NGOs are given the necessary support to use those programmes and infuse them with activities they are currently carrying out aimed at ending GBVF.” Any cookies that may not be particularly necessary for the website to function and is used specifically to collect user personal data via analytics, ads, other embedded contents are termed as non-necessary cookies.
