A rhino and her calf, among over 2000 rhinos sold to African Parks, are seen in captivity ahead of the rewilding process planned for the next 10 years, starting later this year, at a farm outside Klerksdorp, South Africa, March 12, 2024.
It has given an example of KwaZulu-Natal where 1 000 rhinos have been dehorned since April this year.This is a slight decline compared to the 231 cases recorded in the same period last year. Environment Minister Dr. Dion George says, “During the reporting period, over 60 suspects have been arrested and 20 heavy calibre firearms recovered in relation to rhino poaching and rhino horn trafficking.”
“Successful joint operations and investigations between SAPS Stock Theft & Endangered Species Unit, Environmental Management Inspectors from national and provincial conservation agencies and departments, the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigations and private security teams are to be commended for their sustained effort,” he adds.
