Defining the News

Plambeck Emirates expressed concern over the planned closure of the Kalangitan Engineered Sanitary Landfill in Tarlac province operated by Metro Clark Waste Management .

Plambeck Emirates chief executive Norbert Plambeck said in a statement the proposed WTE plant would have marked a significant step forward for the Philippines, offering a modern solution to waste management challenges while aligning with global sustainability standards. The project was designed to be the most advanced of its kind in the Philippines, and crucially, would have been funded entirely by Plambeck Emirates at no cost or risk to the Philippine government, it said.

“The recent statements by BCDA and CDC regarding the expiration of MCWM’s lease in October 2024 are troubling, especially given that the contract was signed under the ‘Foreign Investors Lease Act,’ allowing for a lease duration of up to 50 years,” Plambeck said.
