President Biden hosts a reception in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month to honor the contributions of the Latino community to the U.S.On Wednesday, the Attorney General’s Office announced the settlement with Dallas-based healthcare technology company Pieces Technologies, resolving allegations that the company deployed its AI software into hospitals after making a series of false or misleading statements about its accuracy.
At least four major Texas hospitals have been relaying patient data to Pieces so their AI utilities can “summerise a patient’s condition” to hospital staff, as well as their treatment. An investigation alleged that Pieces made deceptive claims about their AI utility’s accuracy, putting the public at risk, and deceiving hospitals.
“AI companies offering products used in high-risk settings owe it to the public and to their clients to be transparent about their risks, limitations, and appropriate use. Anything short of that is irresponsible and unnecessarily puts Texans’ safety at risk,” said Attorney General Paxton. “Hospitals and other healthcare entities must consider whether AI products are appropriate and train their employees accordingly.
As part of the settlement, Pieces Technologies agreed to disclose their product’s accuracy, as well as inform healthcare workers of the software’s accuracy, and how much to rely on it.
