Crime Analyst Willem Els says criminals have lost their fear and respect for the police amid an increase in the number of shootout incidents between criminals and officers.that claimed a total of seven lives. Els says this is a concerning trend that demonstrates the brazenness of criminals.
“What we’ve noticed of late is that where there seemed to be in the past some kind of respect whenever the police were to approach you and you know as a criminal that they are armed and now there’s going to be a confrontation – then more often than not the criminals would hand themselves over. But we saw of late that they are trying to shoot their way out and they are attacking the police.
