The chief executive of Eir has said she is certain the company can roll out the National Broadband Plan for less than €1 billion

The company withdrew from the bidding process over a year ago, saying at the time that the risks had become "too great for its continued participation."

She said that because of this the company is certain it could roll out fibre to rural homes for under €1bn. Last month the Government awarded preferred bidder status for the delivery of the NPB to a consortium led by US businessman David McCourt.

It makes sense to give Eir the contract instead of waisting badly neede d billions that should be spent as is badly needed on our A&E departments and our homeless people.

Just spoke to eir and it's taken 4 months to suggest a date for cable installation in my estate in a medium sized town and they can't say for sure it'll happen then. So good luck with that DofC

Could they have emailed to make it quicker ?

But D o Brien isn’t involved in your company so FG/FF won’t accept any bids unless denis is getting his grubby hands on a %

Eir are an absolute disgrace. They are the worst customer (don't) care system that I have ever dealt with. Over 12 months, After many long chats with Zertgy, Gurteydd, Mombtyz etc, I had to complain to ComReg to get a paper bill posted to me as I could not log on to get my bill.

they should concentrate on their 'not fit for purpose' mobile network first.

She should roll out someone that will answer the phone first.

I work in IT and have been told today that unless someone cancels an e-fiber connection on the Southmall in Cork I can't get it for our business. The cabinet is full.. eir

What about the 28.000 business customers who's account details you lost? On a laptop that was left in a car? Possibly the biggest breach of data ever. Yet you seem to think it's not a problem.

What would a girlie know?

Correct now if I am wrong but Eir which used to be Eircom was unable to even roll out normal internet when it was state owned and still hasn’t rolled it out!

Ok let's go do it 👍👍

Dont believe her

Can’t even get a phone signal in my house ffs they’re a joke

Spoofers. They're trying to scupper the plan because it's competition for them

Eir couldn't roll out a carpet.

Why did they walk then. Had problem with there broadband last year. Lost the will to live trying just to contact them.

Not with the service I’m on only getting 10 mb in a town never mind rural

So why did they not submit a tender ? I don’t believe them, I’m in Smithfield and their broadband speed is 6mbs ! Which is why I use Virgin Media with 300mbs ! If they can’t provide proper broadband in Dublin city there is no chance they’ll do it in rural areas

She should focus on customer service first!!

'It's no secret': Eir boss says telecoms company could complete broadband plan for less than €1bnGovernment announced that it is to proceed with its plans for the €3 billion NBP Lol This reminds me of Sinn Fein. Refuse to do the job yourself but tell everyone who will listen what a bad job the other fellow is doing. And why couldn't they? They own the network, i think it was due to brown envelopes that eir didn't or wasn't allowed to do it.
