‘No two of our hats are the same,’ vendor says (14 photos)

The Marconi Cultural Event Centre was packed with Sault and area arts and crafts vendors and Christmas shoppers on Sunday for the Algoma Maker’s Market Holiday Festival.

One of the busier tables was that of MegMakesStitches, a local business co-owned by Meghan Rains and Rachael Mura. “We knit a variety of infant wear through to women's and men’s winter apparel. We offer everything from luxury items to more economical goods,” Rains told SooToday.Rains, who works as a plant biologist, has found MegMakesStitches to be a fun and profitable side gig.

“I continued it as a way to keep busy during the winter months, and then during the pandemic, Rachael and I went full scale and here we are.”Rains and Mura’s goods have appeared at many recent arts and craft shows; their business can be found on Facebook. “We do a lot of custom orders, so you get a one-of-a-kind item. You’re not going to find somebody with the same hat because they’re not mass-produced,” Rains said.
