Tanya Plibersek has fired back at 'nonsense' claims made by Regis after the Environment Minister blocked the company's $1 billion gold mine project.

'Nonsense': Tanya Plibersek hits back at Regis over claims gold mine project would take five to 10 years to be redesigned

The declaration of the section relates to 400 hectares of the 2500 hectare site, where the tailings dam was proposed to built, near the headwaters of the Belubula River. CEO of the gold company, Jim Beyer, claimed it could now take as long as 10 years for new approvals at a new location. Ms Plibersek shut the claim down before waxing lyrical about her approval times in response to suggestions the process of having a new location ticked off would take too long.

The Environment Minister also said she had approved more than 40 mining projects, claiming they hadn't been reported by the media as they were"uncontroversial" because they had conditions to"reduce" environmental impacts and to protect cultural heritage.
