The National Security Agency tipped off Microsoft about a security flaw in its Windows operating system. The company says it hasn't seen any evidence that hackers used the technique and a fix was made available Tuesday.

FILE - This Aug. 7, 2017, file shows a Microsoft Widows sign on display at a store in Hialeah, Fla. The National Security Agency has discovered a major security flaw in Microsoft's Windows operating system. Microsoft says the NSA notified the company about it. A fix was made available Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020.

Microsoft made a software patch to fix it available Tuesday and credited the agency for discovering the flaw. The company said it has not seen any evidence that hackers have used the technique discovered by the NSA. If successfully exploited, an attacker would have been able to conduct “man-in-the-middle attacks” and decrypt confidential information on user connections to the affected software, the company said.

NSA's bad rep is due to every 4 flaws it finds, it discloses 1, & exploits the others.
