Dinner by Heston owes employees at least $4.5 million in what appears to be the worst case of underpayment yet in the high-end restaurant sector

that also revealed the company behind the restaurant was set up in the notorious Caribbean tax haven.Provisional liquidators BRI Ferrier say in the creditors' report that the $4.47 million owed to workers at Dinner by Heston is “in reality” understated by an “unknown factor” because it was an ongoing process to calculate what they were owed. It covers the restaurant's four years of operation.

"Despite wage theft in the order of $4.5 million, Crown continued backing Dinner By Heston through a cosy joint venture that saw them pay rent of only $1 a year. Meanwhile, hospitality workers are owed up to $35,000, after working 80- to 90-hour weeks," she said. Tipsy Cake appointed provisional liquidators before Christmas. It came just days after it missed a deadline with the Fair Work Ombudsman to pay staff the millions it owed them.in Australia, is famed for his "multi-sensory" cooking and unusual food pairings such as bacon and egg ice-cream. The Michelin-starred UK-based The Fat Duck, the eatery for which he is best known, was voted the world’s best restaurant in 2005.

The Fair Work Ombudsman launched an investigation soon after. The creditors report said it took until June 2019 – seven months after the story was published – for Dinner by Heston to comply with workplace law. Before Christmas Fair Work Ombudsman Sandra Parker said it was disappointing that Tipsy Cake had not resolved the underpayment issue before it went into provisional liquidation.

What.....underpayment. Call it what it is.....the word begins with the letter “T”. Fill in the blank [XXEFT]. Journalism please?

Wealth and greed go together like charm and ego.

margelliott6 Did anyone read this? The restaurant is not owned by him, they pay a licence fee to use the name. No different to what Richard Branson does with the Virgin name. It was owned by a company called Tipsy Cake Pty Ltd.

That's why Australians need unions - not union-busting leaders!

I'm sure the Sunday and holiday penalty rate payments makes up for it though.....

This is endemic across so many industries. Retail, hospitality, franchise, wholesale. They are crooks and this level of white collar crime needs criminal penalties. This is the Royal Commission we need.

Looks like the lamb chops will go up to $275.00 a serve. But a least they’ll have a lovely red wine jus. Ice cream w/topping $53.00. It’s the way they plate it up that makes the difference.

Jeees the how to rip of your staff module must be the last one on master chef , they must of past it cause they all do it .

Always thought he was a bit dodgy. Too much ego for my taste.

They seriously have shitty skills in choosing business managers/restaurant managers/accountants/payroll people...

It was all smoke & mirrors with a touch of sugar coating ultimately!

Jail.

AndyDW_ 'Destitution, by Heston'

😒

The food was delicious but had a bitter aftertaste ... of class warfare.

nchuah It’s theft, not underpayment. Calling it underpayment makes it sound like an error. This is clearly deliberate theft from his own staff. When a bad guy with a gun enters a bank they don’t demand an underpayment be placed in their bag.

Another cretin.

Watched this individual a couple of times - gained Distinct Impression that here was a Self Congratulatory, Self Promoting Smarty Pants with a Big Ego - expect getting away with Robbing Staff of Wages gives Aura Over Confident Superiority

While Govt dithers about criminal legislation Heston gets away with fraud

So please explain why these so called Professional Unions didn't discover the error in wages paid years ago prior to the Company collapsing. It beggars belief they can now beat there chests etc, why didnt they protect there members in the first place !!!!.

JJKALE2 Heston the horrible boss 😡

peggymel2001 We need gaol terms for these crooks.

It's not just ONE small business, it's close to being EVERY small business.

MdmAbsentMinded Why does the article refer to wage theft as 'under payments'?

More money off to the 'Caymans' again! How could you go broke when you don't pay rent and get staff so cheap!? The people behind Silly Cake, know how to play the system! They will!

KoparaFallsKid That’s $4.5m straight into his pocket.

never ceases to amaze me how ppl fawn over celebrity chefs , it allows them to get away with anything...how did the staff allow themselves to be underpaid by millions of dollars ? their own ignorance of awards ? did they think having Heston in their CV's would improve chances

He’s a thief, treat him like a thief!

When will Australia learn not to let the English in anymore? lol

1958_BestYear Unbelievable. Time to throw the book at these crooks. auspol MSM

Thief

George’s mentor

So Heston Blumenthal, George Calombaris, Neil Perry, Guillaume Brahimi,zumbo....next celebrity chef who cooks the books? You chefmattmoran or you Fassnidge73

MasterTheft

Jail for this crook

It would seem mandatory that if you appear in masterchefau that you also steal people's wages. When are we going to see IR reforms that will put people in gaol. If I walked in and failed to pay for my meal.....

But de-registering unions that fail to fill out paperwork is more important to this government. Morrison & Co couldn't care less.

How come these celebrity chefs never accidentally overpay anyone?🤑

Pay them in over priced BBQs

molecular wage thief

Termination of McDonald's EBA 'bad for workers and business'The Business Council of Australia has warned that the termination of a wages agreement for McDonald's staff will leave workers and the business worse-off | AnnaPattySMH AnnaPattySMH So was this some petty tit for tat internal stoush between individuals that then resulted in this outcome? I don’t understand why this was allowed to happen if it’s not in workers best interests. Who’s pulling the strings & why? AnnaPattySMH We don't need McDonald's in Australia- their food makes people stupid. Eat at McDonalds daily and you'll end up in a mental hospital.
