A Liberal Party official on Tuesday urged President Duterte to allow the diversion of billions of pesos in intelligence funds allocated to his office to help finance the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) emergency measures.

Former Quezon Rep. Erin Tañada, LP vice president for external affairs, made the call as Davao Oriental Rep. Mayo Almario urged government to stop hoarding by retailers and ordinary buyers of necessary items for COVID-19 suppression

He noted that despite the ongoing COVID-19 threat, the DOH has an existing inventory of only 2,000 testing kits. Meanwhile, House Minority Leader and Manila Rep. Bienvenido Abante rejected proposals for a complete lockdown of Metro Manila as part of the necessary measures to avoid the spread of the dreaded COVID-19 virus.

“At this point, all options should be on the table given that the National Capital Region is the most densely populated area in the country,” said Abante.
