British brewer and pub owner Marston’s to merge with Carlsberg in £780 million deal

BRITISH brewer and pub owner Marston's plans to tie up with Carlsberg UK to create a joint venture worth £780million.Carlsberg UK is set to tie up with brewer and pub owner Marston'sThe deal is set to create more choice and innovation, bosses of the two firms said, and could also lead to cheaper prices for beer drinkers.

While pub operator Marston's is the brewer of premium cask and packaged ales, including Hobgoblin, Wainwright, Marston’s Pedigree and 61 Deep.Credit: PA:Press Association It’s been hard to find good news in the hospitality industry lately, with pubs closed and 2.5million workers on furlough. It also promises “an enhanced brand portfolio, greater consumer choice and the scale to better realise the brewing, distribution and wholesale opportunity in the UK”.There’s also talk of better “value” for customers – cheaper pints to you and me.Following completion, Marston’s will focus on its listed pub and accommodation business while retaining a 40 per cent interest in the larger brewing business.While Carlsberg UK has around 700 staff members based in Northampton and Leeds.

While Tomasz Blawat, managing director of Carlsberg UK, said: "We are excited to move into the next phase of our growth strategy.
