Prime Minister Scott Morrison has defended his commitment to keeping manufacturing jobs in Queensland amid reports the government is planning to replace its current fleet of Tiger attack helicopters. Sky News understands the federal government is on the cusp of spending billions to purchase 29 Apache gunships from the United States, which could cost hundreds of Queensland jobs.

Mr Morrison said the subject was a matter of national security but promised transparency around future defence projects. “I don’t indulge rumours when it comes to these things, if there are ever announcements about those things we’ve always been quite transparent,” he said. “We are keeping manufacturing jobs in Queensland through the record investments we have in our defence industry.”
