The UK hospitality industry says it will take legal action to stop new local lockdown rules that could force pub, clubs and other venues to close

The UK hospitality industry has said it will take legal action to stop new local lockdown rules that could force pub, clubs and other venues to close.

"This next round of restrictions are hugely disproportionate and unjust, with no scientific rationale or correlation to Public Health England transmission rates, when compared to other key environments."The Liverpool City Region is expected to face the tightest restrictions under a new "three tier" system, which will classify regions as being at a "medium," "high" or "very high" level of alert.

But some fear this will not be enough and there could still be a big impact on jobs, said Dame Carolyn Fairbairn, director general of business lobby group the CBI.Dame Carolyn Fairbairn said the government needed to "show its workings" Leaders in northern England, which has been hard hit by the new surge in coronavirus cases, are supporting NTIA's call for a judicial review.

Allowing university students to return to places like Liverpool and Nottingham without an effective track and trace system was like pouring poison into the water. Local people are now having to live with the consequences without effective support.

Easy humor on the surname 'KILL'? I will skip it this time, despite I think that it could be fitted considering the content of his declarations...

Got these people and Andy Burnham saying they mustn't close and Starma insisting on another lockdown, thought they were all on the sane side I feel so sorry for the businesses that have followed the rules having to suffer because the brain dead are not

But what if they have the flu and then it turns into coronavirus then that’s it isn’t it .........

All they think about is money money money and not saving life’s!!!!!

SidneyPowell1 Lockdowns do not work.

PatriotRaineyK Never close again. They can’t do anything to us. Be free people. Go out and live!!!

SidneyPowell1 Fight back!

SidneyPowell1 Goid - WHO says they don’t work. Mask, social distance, hand hygiene, DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE. Or stay home and don’t worry about the people willing to take more risk than you.

SidneyPowell1 The time for fighting back has come. May God and good fortune smile upon your efforts.

This just in, the tobacco industry is taking legal action.....

Hahahaha.

How about legal action against the folk who broke lockdown rules and caused the new lockdown? Of people had stuck to the rules, this new lockdown would not be happening.

A World Health Organisation doctor has backflipped on the organisation's original Covid-19 stance, calling for world leaders to stop locking down their countries and economies.

Do the BBC ever spread good news? You are scare mongering rather than reporting fairly. Why concentrate on Liverpool? Everyone knows the reason Covid has risen there. They are selfish people.

debatenothate2 These 3 going to need their running shoes very soon,

Let's face it. You lot at the outdated BBC dont give a toss. You're all in on it. Stick you license fee.

Hope they win 👍

Good

👏👏👏👏

The problem I’ve seen is the places who have taken action to comply with restrictions have done it impeccably. Sadly some places don’t give a shit.

seektruthextra Yesssssssss 👊🙌🏾

Good luck with that. Maybe they should just pay their workers what they can out of what they intend to spend on lawyers.

GillW12 About time , do not let them continue to kill our incredible hospitality industry . Do whatever it takes .

Good 👍

Don't bother Liverpool businesses as you have been sold out by Rotherham and Anderson ..

They want to finish that industry off idiots.😡

Go for it! Enough is enough!

Not before time the government has gone rogue and is run like North Korea.

Lives before profit

I guess it all depends on if the pub can prove they were obeying the rules beforehand If they were then why should they shut

Does this mean we can sue the hospitality business if we catch covid from them

And so they should. My newcastle ward has two primary and two large secondary schools and one pub. Our numbers have been going up in recent weeks but i really struggle to believe it's the pub causing this....

Yeah...who cares about the old and the frail...

Half the people in these comments need to wake up! Sweden didn’t lock down once and they have the lowest infection rates. COVID isn’t going to go anywhere just like we have to live with flu every year life needs to carry on 🥴

False_Pos1t1ve Can I donate?

GOOD!!!

Thats ok we will take legal action when people get covid

I hope so

Good luck to them

Good. I hope they win.

An excellent way of ensuring you will go out of business. STUPIDITY is never a good answer.

Go for it. You'll still be required to close. By the time legal proceedings get going your fragile business will have folded and no one will remember it ever existed.

These people are unreal 😡

appseyes TAKE THE GOVERNMENT TO CLEANERS! Anyone who thinks this is about COVID you are mistaken. A so called virus with a 98.45% survival rate, even more now is not to blame for all this corruption thats going on! 60,000 people died of the flu in the UK 2018 and nothing was done!

Though they were broke Now they have money to send on a legal team pmsl pay your staff

Good news. The hospitality industry has my support, FWIW.

About fuckin time, stop getting shafted by a blatantly corrupt government and fight for your industry and careers FFS! 🤬

😂😂😂 yep hospitality is owned and run by morons

more balls than Scotland then

exRAF_Al Good on them!

Yeehaaaa!

Well if you dont shut and get ill dont go running to nhs for help your on your own

Money over the People!!! Did you not learn anything from watching the United States of American and our response to the Corona Virus. You want to catch up to our infection and death numbers is the USA. wow even when you see bad happening, you choose to not go the other direction

This legal action is probably inevitable. Just how many jobs it will save though is open to debate. Given the length of such proceedings the only people who are likely to benefit are members of the legal profession. That said the hospitality industry have my support on this one.

Profit before lives

Don’t blame them, it’s time to get on with our lives.

Great stuff. Good luck guys

Having just seen the 11am data, I don’t fancy their chances (whilst being very sympathetic).

If it needs shutting then so be it, am sick of people moaning on that the Pubs are going to shut as that is their only thing they do in life. Just ask someone who has lost a friend, a relative to Covid what they think!

Reannjenkins Great news. Hopefully put an end to all this mask nonsense as well. Ppl go to pubs, restaurants to enjoy themselves and forgot about the stress of life for a few hours. We need go back to how things were, got a cold, feel unwell, stay home.

Good go for it we need some common sense on this issue and not put the country at risk.

Good we need to start fighting this insanity

EndUKLockdown1 good - we all need to fight back - there is no science behind this - if they say there is, it is bad science

Good luck and I hope they win.

If any of their customers become ill and so infect others who may not survive or can't go to their work to earn money then can we take civil action against the hospitality industry?

EndUKLockdown1 I sincerely hope they do. About time they grew a pair.

Heavy police presence is needed to ensure people stick to the laws governing social distances and face coverings.

In response to Liverpool student Emma if she sees this, who said about gyms being necessity. Gyms have the high risk and spread of infection. Even with cleaning, sadly many people don't clean dumbbells and equipment after use. And clean operatives in 24/7 gyms don't work 24/7.

In which case they should be exempt from any financial help!!!

EndUKLockdown1 What about the downfall of the music industry and the theatre?

Good, they can’t keep doing this to people’s livelihoods!

Hospitality needs to get it's act together. At a pub yesterday constant cleaning, distanced and staff masked👍Restaurant week before that, no masks, barely 1m between tables👎left before ordering. Chain pub before that, total distancing, almost OTT, but being serious about it.

Cases didn't surge when pubs opened yet have rocketed since schools opened. Why not extend Oct term break to 3wks & monitor to see trend in cases THEN resume schools & close pubs for 3wks and compare data to see if it is schools or pubs that are causing increased cases.

Good well done. Stand up to this not a clue government

Oh I hope they do somebody has to start standing up to this bloody government.

Good let's start the fight back here 👏👏

What sort of selfish people try to take a government to court for trying to protect life. A shower of short sighted selfish morons , that's who. They have no thought for other people, not even the elderly people in their own families.

Having seen some of the pictures from over the weekend not a surprise we’re having to lock down, inconsiderate guys who didn’t care, you are destroying the economy, the pubs need to be stricter in who they let in rather than how much can we make

Legal action to protect profit before health. What a joke!

People in support of draconian lockdowns and measures are equally responsible as those imposing them for the economic ruin that awaits. I do hope you understand that you are leaving hundred thousands with no means to survive.

Well if they are ok for people to take legal action against them, then have at it!

Too right, good on them! Clearly schools and universities have driven it up since early September, any idiot can see this. They need to look at the bigger picture

EndUKLockdown1 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

About time they started pushing back against our quasi fascist government. People's lives are being ruined here and few seem to care.

If you look at the latest case/infection data, I’d say they have a case! New infections are nowhere near the governments predictions and actually appear to have levelled off and are possibly falling;

Interesting to note that the Tiers run 1-3 medium to very high, not the other way round...🧐 that should sharpen people’s attention.

Good luck with that!

Northern Lives Matter ?

Just wear a bloody mask and nobody is going to go into lockdown again. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I have been supportive and compliant with “the rules” to date but I think it’s time to let people make their own decisions.

Good for them! Finally people willing to challenge the baseless policies of this clueless regime. Let’s get behind the the small businesses and 100ks of employees who are doing their best to keep the economy on its feet, despite of the idiots that run the U.K. MuppetState

Every body ignore it if it happens, keep the county open for business and let nature take its course

Good 👏

The problem with staying open is it doesn’t put enough pressure on the government to provide income support to those at the bottom of the chain

Good. No need to be closing bars and restaurants. Sensible measures, limits on numbers and a degree of distancing are adequate

So they would rather put their staff & customers in danger for a £ than stay safe & figure out a way 2 stay in business without killing ppl. Just like in the United States!

Ridiculous the government has the right to protect nhs and people’s lives

So how do you cure the problem these are the very people who are spreading the virus and putting the majority at RISK

Agreed, there is no clear evidence given by the experts. Most places I have been to adhere to the guidelines and all have been using masks when away from there tables.

Yeah. Tell the courts the government who have paid wages, opened up payments to help businesses and done everything they can, are out of order for proposing measures to stop further spread of this virus.

Though they said 'only catch it one way' if this is the case why is lockdown so hard to understand? They are 100's coffee shops; nail bars; pubs so this would deem the likely area to lockdown to help stem the flow of infections (Which what they are trying to do) Stop is the key.

Yes,excellent.take action.Don’t let them force you and take your jobs and business down. They are liars and always asking people to work but now they close all the businesses and make people poorer until they die of hunger. These are all planned to bring robots to take over humane

GanjaStong PrayforGanja StopArmenianAggression StopArmenianTerrorism

Remember this when you’re outraged that hospitals are struggling.

Waiting for WelshGovernment and fmwales to follow like sheep then we will have 2 countries that will be looking into legal action into lockdown due to inaccurate test results causing false positives amd killing their businesses. KeepWalesSafe

They need to accept the ‘new economy’ of people staying away - if they do not the Chancellor cannot assess the state of the new economy and it could lead to the prevention of new jobs being created which could worsen the recession.

Just wondering how they will take responsibility for the deaths that through track and trace can be tracked back to their pub or restaurants? There would be legal action from families who have lost loved ones for sure. It works both ways.

EndUKLockdown1 What's wrong with this picture?

Good 👏🏻👏🏻

Eat out to help out helped to kick start hospitality, had more places reopened then and not taken full advantage of staff being paid on furlough they would have had a revenue to see them through potentially difficult times ahead!

When you hear the mayors saying what they are going to do it does make you giggle what on earth power do they think they have ? Lol

Hope PM explains later why Bolton is in lockdown while Sunak's constituency isn't - even with 4x the cases / 100k, Johnson's and Williamson's also. Jenrick's isn't with 8x the case rate, but it is worthy of £25m of self-allocated funding. Go on, BoJoke, tell it like it is.

Dont think they have a leg to stand on. When your talking about public health and not imposing a full national lockdown which will happen sooner or later, I dont see how they can oppose anything. Unfortunately going to the pub regardless of the jobs involved is not essential

BREAKING: We just got back from the church in Shushi 20 kilometer from Stepanakert. The church got hit some hours ago, terrible destruction inside. Thank god, the kids plus parents who were in the basement hiding didnt got injured. KarabakhWar BILD

but also, ask the hospitality WORKERS how safe they feel with people possibly from lockdown areas travelling to their pub! and the numerous extra working tasks now due to table service & masks & t&t on minimal staff!

Hope the UK hospitality industry win. Hospitality companies would already know how to reduce the risk of infection after the learning curve since March. With the track-trace, registering the guests contact details to better protect safe working, it’s insane to damage hospitality!

Disgusting! They're prepared to put everyone at risk from Covid_19! Need to close all pubs! Protect people coronavirus ridden piss-heads!

Health before pints!

ProtectingLives

Good luck with taking legal actions against the body of representatives elected to make the laws

This is the story of how one infected person infected a restaurant, the article from the scientific journal is attached. Restaurants and bars should never have been reopened as they spread it. NB The European outbreak began in a bar in Austria.

good for them! we need to stand up and fight and you as a public funded organisation have a responsibility to stand up and do some decent reporting

Will the hospitality industry then be taking responsibility for all the sickness and deaths that will result from their actions?

Maybe if they were more responsible in the first place this wouldn’t of got this far.

Ammount of people in the comments panicking because they cant to the pub for a beer , is life that bad at home that you can't just buy some beers from the shop and stay in for a few week.

Hope this is true as its about time. Thank goodness

About time! The entire thing has turned into a pointless exercise in farce!

Prayers for a safe and effective vaccine 🙏🏽♥️
