Government is the 'catalyst not the solution' for jobs recovery | Sky News AustraliaThe recovery of Australia’s job market will depend on independent decisions made by businesses, as the government is limited to providing incentives in a bid to draw people back to the workforce, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says.\n\nSpeaking to the media on Wednesday, Mr Frydenberg said “it is key for the government to see itself as a catalyst not the solution to the jobs recovery”. \n\n“That’s why we’re providing incentives to business, to help them grow, to innovate, to hire,” he said. \n\nProbed as to how long it would take for the number of available jobs to match demand for work from young Australians, Mr Frydenberg said it depended heavily on the easing of coronavirus-induced restrictions. \n\n“Now the key to creating more jobs is to ease those restrictions and as we know, in my home state of Victoria – 25 per cent of the national economy – those restrictions are in place,” he said. \n\n “And we saw jobs lost in the last month of data as opposed to other state where the jobs have been coming back.\n\n“So as restrictions are eased the jobs will be coming back as people put into work the announcement we made in the budget and in the lead up to the budget.” \n\nThe treasurer also spruiked the government’s jobmaker plan, revealing 458,000 jobs had been created in the past three months, 60 per cent of which were given to women and 40 per cent to young Australians. \n\n\n\n\n\n 60% percent of those business rely on direct consumer demand which the government can support, indeed did support with Job Seeker increases and Job Keeper. Cut those too deep too quickly and without the demand the business cannot create the jobs. This budget is a fail!!! That is all.
