Because of chronic illness, Samantha Mannis couldn't take the traditional Hollywood route. But she found an alternative way, and now, she's a published author with her sights set on writing more books and screenplays.

"I found myself booking appointments for my bosses from an ICU bed," Mannis said."I didn't want to ask for help because every time I did, I was scolded and told, 'This is your job. You shouldn't be asking for help. That's why we hired you.' And it was not a great environment." Mannis began writing, specifically, copywriting and freelancing for various smaller publications. She also started using social media to display her published works and network with potential editors and industry professionals.

"And I loved that process. Because I'm a self-motivated person, and it was just a perfect medium for me with my chronic illness because I could take a nap whenever I needed to. And I could work in my own home."
