Companies don’t have enough workers. Workers say they can’t find jobs. What’s going on?

, is well above the pre-pandemic rate of 3.5%. The relatively high jobless rate suggests an excess of labor supply that in theory should hold wages down.

This has implications for policy makers: Sand in the wheels of the labor market could cause inflation pressures that spur Federal Reserve policy makers to pull back on low interest rate policies meant to support growth. In the longer-run, on the other hand, the slow matching process could have benefits, leaving workers in jobs they prefer and the economy more efficient.

Several factors are behind the development: Many workers moved during the pandemic and aren’t where jobs are available; many have changed their preferences, for instance pursuing remote work, having discovered the benefits of life with no commute; the economy itself shifted, leading to jobs in industries such as warehousing that aren’t in places where workers live or suit the skills they have; extended unemployment benefits and relief checks, meantime, are giving workers time to be choosy in...

Simply paying more is not the solution. There are mis matches in job vs skills, mis match in locations. The solution is skills re training but that would take years to acquire skills for some jobs. Automation, but not all. Jobs can be automated or converted to self serve

Not enough experience. How will you get experience if you not hired?!

Politics is involved…

Low wages & no benefits!

RollingStone is touring again & this to me is one of their better songs & if FauciLiedPeopleDied NIH CDCDirector CDCgov CDCEnvironment this IS WHAT THEY DESIRE COVID19 but thanks to FOLKS LIKE RandPaul Jim_Jordan GOP GovRonDeSantis we r NOT

The government has chronically over-funded supply-side wage subsidies, while not doing enough to shore up labor price supports. Producers are addicted to an opiate-strength concoction of abundant, subsidized, cheap labor. The complaining shows how little competition has existed.

Yeah it’s shitty ass jobs n with the delta variant having to be in contact with people it’s still very dangerous

The COVID “pause” has changed everything. Many discovered they could work better from home and were more content, others that their work lives sucked and they needed to change it. Things will never be the same.

Passive aggressive labor strike? Tone deaf businesses?

In my experience, the openings are there, I have the qualifications, I get the interview(s), but no offers afterwards. But, I’ll keep at it. Again, this is just my experience, I cannot & do not speak for others. I wish us all the best, though. Take care, all.

Companies don’t have enough workers. Workers say they can’t find jobs. What’s going on?

What did you guys come up with?

workers don't want to work for low wage that they can't support themselves on while being berated by entitled people for doing their job.

We need moar stimmies

I'm so, so very tired of hearing people rant about 'lazy, entitled' people staying on unemployment instead of going back to work. That's an absurd oversimplification of a complicated problem, obvs. And: rich people exploit every loophole and break they can, why not workers? ;)

I’ve been looking for many jobs since beginning of last year. Nothing fancy. Jobs which I have had experience and hold qualifications. Yet I’ve been unsuccessful . Companies can find workers...but are fussy, offer pathetic wages, and demand University degrees for sandwich makers

Companies think they can offer the same old crap and it’s not their fault it fails. Nothing like a pandemic to make people demand better.

Cities like New York should embrace it and reinvest and promote industrial and manufacturing jobs.

Biden is giving away to much money

Employers don't want to pay living wages

Two reasons: 1. The public school system, aka teachers’ unions, has failed to prepare people for commercial opportunities. 2. Over-extended unemployment benefits. End of story.

Ask JoeBiden and he will whisper the answer .... pay them more

The Trump jobs numbers had a lot of shitty paying jobs. The pandemic showed people that they need to get better jobs or demand more money for their time. And they are right about that.

Companies offer jobs that pay fuck all

Local businesses are not hiring. It’s only large corps that do not pay their employees enough.

BeCaUsE yOu dOn'T meEt tHe MiNiMuM ReQuiReMeNTs, or some other stupid reason.

this is terrible news

AI in an advanced stage could make things easier to cope with - in the future.

The Dems were outraged when the Reps said people won't go back to work if unemployment pays more than they were making. The Dems claimed people would go back the first chance they get. They were wrong. I know more than a few who aren't planning to work until they have to.

Welcome to government dependence. This is what progressives want, an entire population of people fully dependent on the government. Seems harmless now, we wait a little longer for a table. What about in 10 years?

Unemployment benefits. Next

Good points here but the underlying premise workplaces expect, is to return to pre-March 2020 normal. That's over. Ppl have changed, the needs of the population have changed. Let's not be the ones throwing our fists up in the air vowing to keep the horse & buggy to oppose cars.

Everybody wants everything yet most want to do nothing to get it, oh ya it’s their right

Dumb job experience and education requirements the want you to have a bachelors to flip burgers

Financial journal doesn't understand low demand for shit-paying jobs.

Age discrimination

Need I explain the concept of supply and demand? Pay employees more.

Service Workers who were getting $$ to do nothing (and not paying Rent) that’s what’s Going On. Hopefully that’s stopping and people will get off their buts and get to work!

There aren’t any decent jobs anywhere near where I was forced to live when there weren’t any decent houses available last year. 🤷‍♂️

You can't get kicked out for not paying rent and the government is handing out cash to not work. This isn't rocket science.

It’s called fucking being lazy!!! People now days wouldn’t survive back when. When I started out (25 years ago), you worked because you had too! Even if that meant two jobs, people now days just sit around and wait for that free money!!
