Finance Minister Simon Birmingham has called on Premier Mark McGowan to learn the lessons from how the rest of the country has reopened and handled the Omicron variant and set a date to drop his hard borders.

The Western Australian Premier continues to face pressure, despite support from Scott Morrison and Anthony Albanese, over his decision not to reopen his state’s long border closure in February.

However, the Finance Minister said while it was “fine if he’s making those decisions for now”, Mr McCowan had to offer an alternative date soon. “It’s his state that he was elected to govern, we’re not going to have that debate with him about how he runs his state.Despite having strict border measures, Western Australian COVID-19 cases continue to grow, while hundreds of students and teachers across the state have been plunged into isolation.

Is WA getting Federal Govt financial aid during their closed border?🇦🇺

Western Korea…..

I know Mark McGowan will continue to do the right thing for WA!! Good on ya Mark for looking after WA and protecting us from the mess ups and mismanagement of the LNP and our PM, Morrison 'Scott to go, the master in mouthing meaningless messages and missing in action!!

Simon are you part of this mob? Anyone can make a mistake but to constantly mess up on everything (C19, care of aged, climate control, woman's, First Nation and foreign affairs ) requires the Morrison LNP mob!!! Morrison 'Scott to go! Robo debt, pork barreling, no ICAC +more!

HELP NEEDED! Simon please help sort LNP mess!!!! When the animals in the zoo are looked after better than our aged we have a government rotten to the core!! Shame on you Morrison, Hunt and the man caught out at the cricket Richard Colbeck AWOL MIA!! Only one of many LNP messes!

How good are our finances under this rabble of a government? I’d worry about the things in your own backyard before telling others what to do. 🤔 RemoveTheRabble LNPLast Vote1Labor

WA is doing more than ok, keep the gates SHUT

Disgraceful . Why are you promoting more deaths and the failed political experiment by the LNP.

Translation- Birmo wants more covid spreading through WA.

😂 demand - wet 🥬 has more punch

Birmo didn't get the memo 😆 😆 😂

It’s a lesson still being learned though isn’t it.🤷‍♂️

With the PM's endorsement of WA border rules, I don't think he is listening to the premier who letitripdom, I think McGowan said he looks at NSW and knows not what to do...

The rest of the country didn't have a run down health system already at capacity before covid. Western Australia does, dispite its constant bragging about having the best economy in Australia.
