In emails he shared with The Denver Post, Hinds has received pushback from officials with the city’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, or DOTI.
Rijo, in his email to Hinds, said the city is focusing on education and awareness efforts as the weather warms and scooter season ramps up. That includes having Lyft and Lime deliver messages through their apps on a bi-weekly basis reminding users of rules around safe riding and parking. The companies also are “adding ‘No Sidewalk Riding’ verbiage to all vehicles in a prominent location so there is no confusion about how folks should be using the system,” Rijo wrote.
Lime operations manager for Colorado Cody Noblin said the company is aware of the problems with unsafe riding in downtown Denver and is working with the city on them including through marketing campaigns and by adding stickers to all of its vehicles explaining the rules of the road. When it comes to sidewalk detection technology, if it’s not ready Finegan believes the companies should use geofencing to cap speed limits at 6 mph throughout LoDo. It’s the only way to ensure safety. The companies already have systems in place that shut down scooters on the 16th Street Mall.People ride electric scooters in downtown Denver, Thursday, June 9, 2022.
You think I’m riding a scooter on the street? No safeguards against a collision of any kind. At least on a bicycle you should have a helmet. I’ll take my chances with a meat body than a 1000 lbs+ of death on wheels. You carry a helmet with you to rent anything? Hellll no FYAHAND
Put Trump signs on them. 9news and Denver media will take it from there.
'Terrorized' ... 👈🏻🤣 Liberals being terrorized by liberals.🤣 Get a diesel truck and roll coal! 👈🏻😎
Bahaha 🤣😂😘😂 run to your safe space before the scooters get you!!🤣 It's an apocalypse of man bun wearing douche flute smoking scooter zombies 😂! Call the cops! Oh yeah we defunded them 🧐
Name a rule that they do enforce concerning scooters and rental bikes?
People focus on scooters because fixing our car problem feels insurmountable. Scooter riders are just reacting rationally to unsafe streets. Car users (and city politicians beholden to them) are the problem.
Sh!t half of those people that ride those scooter’s need a drivers license 😂
I can't stand bikers or scooter riders. Either walk or drive/ride, let's stick to only two modes of transportation. Problem solved.
The scooter riders are making the Platte bike path dangerous as hell too.
Cars aren’t suppose to park in the bike lane either
You have to ride on the sidewalks or you get run over.
This city would suck if you couldn’t ride scooters on the sidewalk
I was terrorized by a scooter gang once. They chased me slowly through the Denver streets and made me choose my favorite Pokémon. I said Pikachu. It was the only one I could remember. They circled me for thirty minutes calling me a noob. Whatever that means. It pains me still.
I hate them with passion
People also need to STOP PARKING THESE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SIDEWALK. It’s super fucking inconsiderate of those in wheelchairs. These type of people are the fucking worst.
Providers should have giant stickers on units with such rules before rentals are allowed
Imagine that..., not enforcing the rules
I hate the fact that the city feels littered with discarded scooters and bikes that just sit around for days and neighborhoods and street corners. It really feels junky and trashy.
Because the roads are packed with inattentive drivers
Scooter riders dgaf, sadly
I wouldn't have to ride on the sidewalk if drivers actually were considerate of scooters and bikes on the road. I have been near run over multiple times riding in the bike lanes in Denver.
