The Chevy Volt was heralded as an engineering marvel when it was introduced in 2010. But it was a big money loser for GM.

GM marketing fail. Even refers to the Volt as a plug in hybrid. This is an electric car with a gas generator. No other car like it. I've been leasing one since Sep 2016. Only 8 fill ups, 64 gallons of gas, and 21,500 miles. I'll take my 2,687 mpg any day!

How do you write an entire article about the end of the Volt and not mention it’s successor - the fully electric Chevy Bolt? Literally did a ctrl F to make sure I’m not crazy

I own a volt & love it, but had to do a ton of research before I bought it. i had never heard of it. Chevy never advertised it . stupid commercials about their awards for trucks, but not a word about the Volt. People didnt know about it- they bought prius instead

Bigger lesson is for the US. Those introducing Emerging technologies take a bigger risk than those who follow. Japanese, Chinese & German versions are much more successful. This lesson is more appropriate for Defense industry. US develops and the rest perfect low-cost versions.

The execs made money......

What’s Obama going to do now. Remember he said he was going to buy one. Everything he touches goes to shit.

So the CEO plans to build more EVs? Sounds like CEO needs to go bye bye!

The S, X and 3 were heralded as engineering marvels when they were introduced but are big money losers for Tezla.

The overall cost of ownership (battery replacement) and their limited range makes these vehicles a poor choice for consumers. You can't fool the consumer for long. Even worse issues await autonomous driving!

That has the same effect on current volt owners like if you have an ITT Tech degree and the school went bankrupt and closed haha.

It’s breakthrough was the EV1 which summarily collected and sent to the landfill for no reason in the 1990’s

I live in a co-op so I have no place to charge it. Plus, I need the space of at least a CUV and AWD/ 4WD for winter. That’s that.

EVs only sell when they are subsidized, if that doesn’t show you ppl won’t buy them nothing will

The Volt along with every other subsidized product is doomed to fail. This has ALWAYS been my position ...When an industry can create a product that will stand on its own people will buy it.. X prizes for desired products instead of research grants and subsidies!

i'm sorry but how do you lose money on what is essentially a golf cart?

Chevrolet or the newest version of The Chevy Volt was heralded as an engineering marvel when it was introduced in 2010. But nowadays a big money looser for GM. MarketingStratergies

Another climate change gimmick that failed

Everyone making EVs has lost money. Everyone.

Styling problem, the reviewers at the time said the designers were aware but blamed it on the batteries, people pick cars based on aesthetics more than anything else.
