- According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru , copper production in Peru, the world’s second largest copper producing country, amounted to 207,739 tonnes in August 2022, down 1.5% compared to August 2021 . MINEM said that this negative performance was mainly due to lower production by major local copper mining companies, including Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde S.A.A. and Southern Peru Copper Corporation .
At the company level, Compañía Minera Antamina S.A. is first with a 21.0% share in total Peru’s copper output, followed by Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde S.A.A. and Southern Peru Copper Corporation . The ministry added that at the regional level, Áncash is first with a 21.2% share in the country’s total copper production, followed by Arequipa , Junín and Apurímac .
