Valley Starbucks workers said they would strike Thursday morning in coordination with more than 100 stores nationwide.planned to walk out from the store between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. to protest what they say are unfair labor practices, according to the union. Workers at stores in Avondale and Mesa are also participating.

The union said employees at the coffee chain face understaffed stores and inconsistent schedules as well as corporate efforts against unionization. "Despite being the face of the company, Starbucks partners are underpaid, forced to run perpetually understaffed stores, and don't have consistent schedules they can rely on," Starbucks Workers United said in a news release.Thursday's action coincides with a giveaway of Starbucks branded cups by the company. The striking employees said they will give out red Starbucks Workers United cups to customers in what they call its Red Cup Rebellion.

"This is the biggest coordinated national action taken by union Starbucks stores in the campaign’s history," Starbucks Workers United said in a news release.
